I'd be interested in finding out.. Hopefully someone can chime in.. I thought I read somewhere about using other sim...

I'll be going to Israel for a couple weeks this summer and am wondering about using my phone there. In the past I have turned data and phone off and only used wifi for skyping back home as Verizon's overseas rates are absolutely obnoxious. I know the Note 2 is "global."
Does this mean I can purchase a pre-paid SIM card in Israel and use that in my Note 2 for making phone calls and using data? Or am I stuck with Verizon's Global Rape Plan for overseas usage?

I thought I had read that the Note 2 was unlocked, but it would only be unlocked for voice and text. You can pop in a non-Verizon sim and it would work, but you won't be able to get data since the APN info was locked to Verizon only.
If you are rooted you can manually add other carrier APN data. See this thread over on XDA - [MOD][ROOT] VZW GN2 GSM Unlock - Add APN Data - Remove Non-Verizon SIM Message - xda-developers

I tried this unlock instructions without root and it worked. I've inserted international sim cards and they all worked.
I have an AT&T GN2

Note: your phone must be running at least Jelly Bean 4.1 otherwise some of the menu choices are not present
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy!!! There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successfull.... just reboot your phone....
To test, just insert a sim card from a different carrier/provider. If the new sim card works then your phone is now unlocked.
I have done this to my other Note 2 N7105 originally locked to Orange.....
Do this procedure AT YOUR OWN RISK
Thats good news ....
This is awesome lol, now I can keep this phone when my contract is up and head over to tmobile.
Thanks, everyone!
